Wii wii wii wii all the way home
The only guarantee about Theo’s naps these days is that he will poop and then roll around a lot resulting in a flat-as-a-pancake turd that I have to literally peel off his butt afterwards. Now that my breaks have become rather unpredictable in both frequency and length, it’s been harder to update here. Or maybe it’s that Theo commands my complete and undivided attention when he’s awake, so once he goes to sleep, I take the opportunity to
twitch and stare blankly at the wall surf the Internet do lots of housework, leaving little time to document the fascinating details of our exciting lives.
Aaaanyway, here’s the latest scoop around here.
1. The Ritchies are back in Seattle and here to stay! Yesterday, we went out for brunch at the same restaurant we used to go out to brunch to all the time before they relocated to San Diego. Everything was the same with the following notable exceptions:
- A now health-conscious and very trim Jason ordered the oatmeal. Oatmeal! When you can order bacon! Now that’s discipline.
- Charlie is old enough to draw with the crayons the restaurant provides (and smart enough to provide commentary on what color they are).
- Matt and I are the ones with the baby that drops food and silverware all over the floor and tries to eat the napkins and crayons.
Theo is, of course, a big fan of Amy’s:
Theo is fascinated by Charlie. They’re going to be playing in the backyard eating dirt together in no time, just like their daddies did when they were little:
Charlie and his awesome, crazy hair:
Matt and Jason, all growed up and daddies now:
2. Last night we got to drop Theo off at daycare in his PJs and enjoy a Parents’ Night Out. Same as last time, we went out for a multi-course dinner with Tom and Sarah, this time at Brasa. We again lucked out with a good cheese selection and a server that let us linger and linger and linger over course after course after course. It was blissful. We’ve been cooking a lot of casseroles lately, mostly because we think Theo will like them — he doesn’t, except for tuna noodle — and we can feed off of them for a couple days, but quite frankly I’m sick of casseroles. I hereby decree that we shall have no casseroles for a week! Instead there shall be pan-seared sea scallops, filet mignon, and an assortment of fancy imported cheeses, yea! I didn’t take the camera with us to dinner, so there are no photos. (Which is probably a good thing, since I was dangerously tipsy even before the appetizers showed up.) So, instead, here’s a photo of Theo from a few weeks ago with tuna casserole all over his face and lap.
He had to go in the bath right after that:
3. Theo thinks it is absolutely the funniest thing EVER when Matt plays sports on the Nintendo Wii. When Matt swings the controller and the little guy on the screen obediently swings his golf club or tennis racket, Theo laughs like a pre-schooler who has just heard a good butt joke, practically slapping his knees and barely able to catch his breath from the hilarity of it all. Here’s a little video (about 30 seconds long) we posted on Google Video so you can see what I mean:
4. We went snowshoeing in the mountains the other weekend with Theo in the backpack. Dixie romped joyfully while Theo slept for most of the hike, his head bobbling around like it was going to roll right off his shoulders and plonk into the snow.
Matt, Theo, Dixie, snow, trees, sun:
Here’s the one shot of Theo awake:
Theo drove us home while we napped. (Notice he demonstrates perfect hand positioning on the steering wheel. That’s right, Theo! Ten and two o’clock!):
Dixie napped on the way home too, otherwise she would have split the driving with Theo:
5. We’ve lucked out with some nice days around here lately, so we’ve been taking Theo to the nearby park. He has always liked the swings but he really gets a kick out of them now that he’s ten months old and all. He especially likes being pushed really high so I comply, even though it freaks Matt out.
6. In some sad news, Theo’s great-Grandmother passed away last week. I’m glad that she and Theo got to meet when we went to visit at Christmas time. Rest in peace, Grandma Gardner.
Here she is with her daughter, her grandson, and her great-grandson:

Condolences on the loss of great-grandmama.

Theo’s laugh was so wonderfully free and the best of what childhood should be–it made me cry and laugh–it is so infectious.
